Assistant Professor of Spanish—Specialist in Translation and Interpreting

Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures

Duties include teaching lower/upper-division and graduate courses in Translation and Interpreting, developing and enhancing appropriate curricular offerings, leading the development of a certificate program in Translation and Interpreting for the legal and medical fields, conducting research in area of specialization, mentoring students, participating in department, college, and university committees, and engaging in community service and outreach. Required qualifications: 1) Native or near-native ability in Spanish and English; 2) Ability to successfully teach Spanish to English and English to Spanish Translation and Interpreting courses as well as specific courses, such as Spanish for medical or legal professionals; 3) Evidence of research and/or experience in the field, such as conference presentations, dissertation topic, and/or publications; 4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Spanish with emphasis in Translation and/or Interpreting or other closely-related disciplines from an accredited institution is required; ABD considered, with degree in hand by 7/30/2018 for continued tenure-track employment.
