Assistant Professor of German and Ethnic Humanities

Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures

Duties include teaching all levels of undergraduate classes in German, including Humanities, Folklore, or Jewish Studies; developing and enhancing appropriate curricular offerings, supervising students, maintaining a productive research agenda, including peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other professional activities, serving on department, college, and university committees, engaging in community service and outreach, advising students, and interacting with faculty and students in related fields. Required qualifications: 1) Native or near-native ability in German and English  2) Ability to teach successfully all levels of language course and upper division courses in literature and culture; 3) Evidence of scholarly research in the field, such as conference presentations, dissertation topic, and/or publications, and; 4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Candidates with a focus on any period and aspect of German studies will be considered. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in German or other closely related disciplines from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For continued employment in the tenure track position the doctorate must be completed with official notification by 7/30/2018 for continued tenure-track employment.
