 “Familiar Spirits”

 SPECIAL ISSUE OF PACIFIC COAST PHILOLOGY

 JOURNAL OF THE PACIFIC ANCIENT AND MODERN LANGUAGE ASSOCIATION (PAMLA)

 Pacific Coast Philology invites submissions for a 2015 Special Issue that addresses the theme “Familiar Spirits.” We anticipate rich and vibrant arguments that defamiliarize the known and draw near the mysterious.

Possible foci include, but are not limited to:

• Ghosts, hauntings, and the revenant
• Spiritualism and allied movements
• Magic and conjuring
• Familiars and the familial, especially in relation to the strange and uncanny

 Essay submissions that address these and other issues from a variety of disciplines and theoretical approaches are welcome for this special issue of Pacific Coast Philology.  Essays should be of interest to scholars in the classical and modern languages, literatures, and cultures. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by specialists in the field. The expected length of the essays is between 5,000 and 8,000 words. In preparing manuscripts, all contributors should follow the MLA Style Manual. Deadline for submission of essays is April 30, 2015, with an expected date of publication in the fall, 2015.  Submit essays electronically to Cheryl Edelson, special issue editor, at [email protected]
