Pacific Coast Philology CFP (Special Issue) – Palimpsests: Memory and Oblivion

Pacific Coast Philology invites submissions for a special issue of the scholarly journal on “Palimpsests: Memory and Oblivion,” which was the theme for the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association’s annual 2025 conference in San Francisco. On the occasion of PAMLA’s sojourn in San Francisco–a city of many historical, cultural, and cinematic layers–we invited inquiry into palimpsest-focused topics related to issues of remembering, forgetting, erasures, and lingering presences from the past.

For this special issue of the PAMLA journal, we welcome polished versions of conference papers that responded to that theme, as well as longer article projects from which those papers may have been taken or into which those papers may grow. And we welcome new work on the topic, whether or not it was presented at the conference.

We will consider essays between approximately 2,000 and 8,000 words in length, with a deadline of January 10, 2027. In preparing manuscripts, all contributors should follow the MLA Style Manual. Submissions undergo a double-blind review. Please include your name, affiliation, and contact information only on the cover sheet; please do not include in the essay any reference identifying the author.

To submit your manuscript, please do two things. First, email Professor Peter Schulman, special issue editor, at: pschulma@odu.edu

Secondly, please go to http://www.editorialmanager.com/pcp and create an author profile.
