
Join us at PAMLA 2025 for a lively and collaborative Haiku Party on Friday, November 21 (1:30–2:40 pm) in InterContinental Ballroom C (5th floor). This special event will feature acclaimed writers Maxine Hong Kingston, Marilyn Chin, and Chun Yu, who will read from their work, lead call-and-response haiku, and reflect on the form’s unique challenges and delights.

Maxine Hong Kingston is the National Book Award–winning author of The Woman Warrior, China Men, and The Fifth Book of Peace. She has received the National Humanities Medal from President Clinton, the National Medal of Arts from President Obama, and the Emerson-Thoreau Medal, among many other honors.

Marilyn Chin is the award-winning poet of Sage, A Portrait of the Self as Nation, Hard Love Province, and more. Known for her subversive, transnational poetics, her works have become Asian American classics taught internationally.

Chun Yu is an award-winning bilingual poet, graphic novelist, scientist, and translator, and the author of Little Green and the forthcoming graphic novel Ink and Blood. She is also a San Francisco Public Library Laureate and co-founder of Two Languages/One Community.
Come celebrate the art of haiku with three extraordinary voices! This interactive event invites audience participation and promises to be one of the most joyful gatherings of PAMLA 2025.
