We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to long-time member, past PAMLA President, and dedicated scholar Catherine Montfort for her extraordinary generosity and visionary support of our organization. Thanks to Monfort’s remarkable $50,000 donation, PAMLA is thrilled to announce the establishment of two brand-new awards:
- The Catherine Montfort International French Award
- The Catherine Montfort French Graduate Student Scholarship
These new awards will provide vital support to scholars and graduate students working in French and Francophone studies, helping ensure that vibrant research in these fields continues to flourish at our annual conference. Extended Deadline! Apply for PAMLA Scholarships by August 15
To ensure that all eligible members have the opportunity to apply—including for our two new French scholarships—we have officially extended the scholarship application deadline to August 15! PAMLA is proud to offer six distinct scholarship and grant opportunities this year to assist scholars with conference travel and research expenses:
- The Catherine Montfort International French Award (New!)
- The Catherine Montfort French Graduate Student Scholarship (New!)
- The German Studies Scholarship
- The Margaret H. Sedenquist International Scholarship
- The Paula Svonkin Creative Arts Award
- The Graduate Student Scholarship
Build a Legacy: Create a Named Scholarship/Special Endowment
Catherine’s generosity serves as an inspiring reminder of how individual contributions directly shape the future of our scholarly community. If you have ever considered leaving a lasting mark on PAMLA, we invite you to explore creating a Named Scholarship, Fund, or Endowment.
Creating a scholarship—typically beginning with a contribution between $3,000 and $100,000—allows you to honor a mentor, colleague, loved one, or your own academic legacy. Named funds provide crucial, long-term support for areas of our community where assistance is needed most, including:
- Undergraduate and Graduate Student travel and research grants.
- Non-Tenure-Track (NTT) and Contingent Faculty support.
- Dedicated awards for scholars working in Spanish, Italian, German, Asian languages, and other underrepresented fields.
- Targeted funds for specific disciplines, such as Poetry, Media Studies, Creative Writing, or Environmental Humanities.
- An Annual Keynote or Guest Speaker Fund to bring distinguished scholars in a specific language or discipline to the conference each year.
