PAMLA 2025: Transportation

The 2025 PAMLA Conference will be held at the InterContinental San Francisco, 888 Howard Street, San Francisco, California 94103, November 20-23. The hotel is located in the city’s vibrant South of Market (SoMa) district and is easily accessible from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) (via a BART ride of about 30 minutes), as well as from the Oakland International Airport (OAK) or even the San Jose International Airport (SJC). (It is most easily accessible from SFO, though.)

Our goal is to help you reach the conference smoothly and affordably, with encouragement to use public transit, especially BART, if possible.

Getting to the InterContinental from SFO

The easiest and most efficient way to reach the conference hotel from SFO is via BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit):

  • Board BART at the SFO International Terminal.
  • Take any northbound (Antioch / Richmond / Dublin-Pleasanton) train (the yellow or red lines)
  • Exit at Powell Street Station.
  • From Powell, the InterContinental is a short 7-10 minute walk down 5th Street toward Howard Street.

For route details, travel times, and fare estimates, consult Rome2Rio: https://www.rome2rio.com/map/San-Francisco-Airport-SFO/InterContinental-San-Francisco#r/BART

BART trains run approximately every 15 minutes, usually take about a half hour to get to Powell Street, cost significantly less than a rideshare, and avoid traffic congestion entering downtown San Francisco.

Driving & Parking

If you plan to drive to the conference consider our special rate Valet Parking at the InterContinental. The InterContinental San Francisco offers valet parking. PAMLA attendees receive a special conference rate of $40 per day. Please mention PAMLA at check-in to receive the discounted rate.

Self-Parking Options

While the hotel does not offer self-parking, several garages are within a few blocks. Rates vary, but typically range from $25 to $45 per day. For convenience and safety, we recommend the 5th & Mission/Yerba Buena Garage, one of the largest and closest facilities.

Public Transit Within San Francisco

The city is well served by:

  • Muni Buses & Light Rail (Metro)
  • BART
  • Historic F-Line Streetcars
  • Cable Cars (Powell line is a short walk from the hotel)

If you plan to explore the city before or after the conference, consider purchasing a reloadable Clipper Card, usable across all public transit systems.

Conference Carpooling

Check the Community tab in the Whova conference app for carpooling, ride-shares, and airport group transit. We  encourage members to use this feature to reduce travel costs and environmental impact, if or when possible.

If you have any questions about transportation to the conference, feel free to contact PAMLA Executive Director Craig Svonkin: director@pamla.org or 626-354-7526.
