PAMLA 2025: Transportation

The 2025 PAMLA Conference will take place at the InterContinental San Francisco (888 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA 94103) from November 20–23, with a Welcome Event the evening of November 19. For reference, the official transportation page is also available here:

The InterContinental sits in the SoMa district and is easiest to reach from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). While Oakland International Airport (OAK) and San Jose International Airport (SJC) are also options, SFO is by far the most convenient.

We strongly encourage attendees to use BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) when traveling from SFO to the hotel. BART trains depart directly from the International Terminal. Board any northbound line (Antioch, Richmond, or Dublin–Pleasanton) and ride to Powell Street Station; the trip usually takes around thirty minutes. From Powell Street, the InterContinental is a short seven-to-ten-minute walk down 5th Street toward Howard Street. A helpful route overview may be found here:

If you plan to drive, PAMLA attendees receive a reduced valet parking rate of $40 per day at the InterContinental. Mention PAMLA at check-in to receive the discount. While the hotel does not offer self-parking, several garages are nearby, generally ranging from $25 to $45 per day. The 5th & Mission/Yerba Buena Garage is one of the closest and most reliable options.

Public transit within San Francisco is extensive and convenient. Muni buses, Muni Metro light rail, BART, the historic F-Line streetcars, and the Powell Street cable car line all serve the area surrounding the hotel. Attendees exploring the city may benefit from purchasing a Clipper Card, which works across all major transit systems.

For members interested in sharing transportation, the Whova conference app includes a Community Board where attendees can coordinate carpools, ride-shares, and group transit to and from the airport.
