PAMLA Advancement Officer/Treasurer Search

PAMLA is seeking applicants for the Advancement Officer/Treasurer Position. The PAMLA Advancement Officer/Treasurer oversees the fiscal affairs of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) and reports periodically to the membership and the Executive Committee on the financial state of PAMLA.

  • The Advancement Officer/Treasurer attends PAMLA board meetings at least twice per year and presents reports on PAMLA’s fiscal position and transaction history, providing general guidance to the Board.
  • The Advancement Officer/Treasurer attends, to the extent possible, PAMLA Conferences and produces reports for members at the membership meeting.

In addition, the Advancement Officer/Treasurer shall:

  • Act as an authorized signer, along with the Executive Director, on financial instruments.
  • Work with the Executive Director to deposit all dues monies and other income of PAMLA.
  • Oversee payments as required for salaries, honoraria, expense reimbursements, purchases, or other expenses of PAMLA, according to PAMLA’s budget.
  • Maintain all financial records of PAMLA.
  • Prepare the annual budget of PAMLA.
  • Prepare financial statements and submission of reports for all external needs.
  • And provide annual reports to PAMLA’s outside tax-preparer for the purpose of tax filings.
  • Oversee an annual internal financial audit of PAMLA’s finances and make the audit report available to the PAMLA Board and the membership.
  • Assist the Executive Director and board with identifying grant and fundraising ideas and opportunities, as well as assist with fundraising for PAMLA.

An effective Advancement Officer/Treasurer will:

  • Have some experience with bookkeeping and tax reporting.
  • Be comfortable with spreadsheets and ready to learn PAMLA’s accounting software.
  • Have some grasp of the workings of a non-profit organization and the rules governing such workings.
  • Understand the goals of PAMLA as an organization that advocates for humanities and arts scholarship and provides a venue for the exchange of ideas at the PAMLA Conference and in other venues.
  • The PAMLA Advancement Officer/Treasurer will receive an annual honorarium of $500 to thank them for their hard work.
