A Tour of Western Libraries Special Collections

Presiding Officer:
Sylvia Tag, Western Washington University

Located on the sixth floor of WWU’s historic Wilson Library, Special Collections is committed to providing access to cultural heritage materials that support original research, active learning, and public dialogue around issues and ideas that have shaped our world. This session will include an introduction to WWU Heritage Resources (Special Collections, The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, and University Archives & Records) and our current exhibit, To the Mountaintop: A Social History of Mountaineering. Following the conference theme, attendees will learn how mountains have historically been a stage for the performance of social and cultural roles. In addition, there will be an overview of our children’s literature collections with a focus on eighteenth and nineteenth century readers and primers.
