Drama and Society IV: Representation of Violence in Theater

This panel invites papers that explore the relationship that has traditionally existed between theatre and the enactment of violence. What are the many ways playwrights have imagined violence? What does the staging of cruelty signify in terms of theater art, whether from the perspective of aesthetics, socio-politics, theory, or with regard to the role demanded of the audience?
