Miller Market/Tony's Coffee is a convenient, quick stop located in the center of campus in Miller Hall on Red Square (very close to our Registration Table in Miller Hall's Collaborative Space). Start your day right with a cup of local, Fair Trade, Tony’s Coffee. Keep yourself going with a hearty Avenue Bread sandwich or soup or salad made fresh in the campus kitchen. If you’re just looking for a quick bite check out the variety of fresh baked goods, local and natural snacks, bottled beverages and much more. Miller Market is open Fridays (8:00am to 5:00pm), and will also be open on Saturday and Sunday (8am to 3 pm).

Zoe’s Bookside Bagels in the Wilson Library serves coffee, sandwiches, and fresh locally-made bagels and a plethora of savory spreads. They also have breakfast bagels, bagel sandwiches, soup and a variety of delicious baked goods like muffins, cookies, and brownies. Zoe’s is open on Friday only (8:00am to 5:00pm). 

Underground Coffeehouse offers comfortable furniture and subtle lighting which pairs fantastically with local Tony’s Fair Trade coffee and espresso, specialty sandwiches, and scrumptious bakery items. The shop is open all day on Fridays.

WWU Print & Copy Center is open only on Friday, (8:00am to 5:00pm) and can help with your various printing and copying needs in Haggard Hall. Phone: (360) 650-3762

The Western Gallery features 5-6 temporary art exhibitions annually, concentrating on national and international art. The gallery has 4,500 square feet of exhibition space in a wing of the Fine Arts Building, and three smaller spaces in the Performing Arts Center, where Northwest art from the collection is shown. The Western Gallery is defined as a university institution whose purpose is to collect, exhibit, and preserve visual art materials, and to further encourage the use of these materials for educational and research purposes. Sehome Hill Arboretum is a lush, green refuge with 6 miles of trails. It is the backyard playground for Western Washington University in Bellingham. Complete with overlook tower, informative trail signs, and an outdoor sculpture collection that is an excellent addition to any excursion to the Arboretum. The trails on Sehome Hill are a popular getaway for Bellingham area residents. With beautiful second-growth forest and the stunning sandstone formations that are northwest Washington’s signature landform, the Arboretum provides sanctuary for outdoors enthusiasts of all persuasions.

SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention (which will be part of the PAMLA Saturday Night Live Eventis an interactive museum that offers educational experiences for audiences of all ages through galleries and public programs that illustrate the development and use of electricity, radio, and the related inventions that changed the course of human history. The Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building is designed by Olson Kundig Architects’ founding partner, Jim Olson. The building is named for its focal point and most innovative feature, a spectacular, translucent wall 37 feet high and 180 feet long, that captures the Northwest’s most precious natural resource: sunlight. Bellingham Area Gardens, Parks, and Trails

Taylor Dock, situated just outside of Fairhaven Historic District in Bellingham, is one of the most popular trails in Whatcom County. Taylor Dock offers the opportunity for people to walk over the open waters of Bellingham Bay. This connector from the Fairhaven Village Green to Boulevard Park is one of the best ways to experience an excellent slice of what the area has to offer. There are benches along the way to grab a seat and soak in the views of distant mountains with the taste of salt water on your palate.

Whatcom Falls Park is a natural waterfall park with 3.5 miles of trails, many of which wind through the forests, some overlooking the creek gorge and still pools. Some trails wind through open meadows, while others stay in deep forest. A WPA-built stone bridge greets visitors, just 100 yards from the parking area. It is a beautiful, mossy wonder that makes a great destination in and of itself, though further wandering in the park is a fantastic day outing.

Zuanich Point Park, overlooking Squalicum Harbor, is a 4.4-acre park that is the venue for community events, boating celebrations, picnics, and outstanding kite flying. The Squalicum Promenade paved path, perfect for jogging and roller-blading, connects Squalicum Harbor and Zuanich Point Park to the Bellwether on the Bay development.

Lake Padden Park is a popular local park that features numerous picnic areas, playgrounds, and a 3-mile trail. There are also numerous trails located around the lake and throughout the surrounding forest that are used for hiking and biking, as well as a public golf course that is located along the eastern shore.

Big Rock Garden Park (Sculpture Garden) is a unique city park showcasing original sculptures in a 2.5-acre garden nestled in a grove of evergreens above Lake Whatcom. Meandering paths wander through the peaceful landscape of Big Rock Garden Park, where nature and art complement each other. The park boasts over 37 permanent works by distinguished international and local artists. A striking geometrical sculpture by renowned Mexican artist Sebastian and rarely seen pieces by Canadian artist David Marshall highlight the diversity. Seasonal change in the garden inspires a new experience with each visit; by November, over 100 varieties of beautiful maples signal the arrival of fall.

Larrabee State Park,set on the seaward side of Chuckanut Mountain near Bellingham, is known for its postcard views of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands. It is also Washington’s first state park.This unique camping park on famed Chuckanut Drive offers boating, paddling, fishing, shellfish harvesting, diving, teeming tide pools and perfect spots for quiet contemplation.Train-spotting is also part of the Larrabee experience where the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and Amtrak run trains up to 16 times a day (including at night) on the Burlington Northern track by the beach.

North Lake Whatcom Trail is a 6-mile trail that borders the southeast side of Lake Whatcom, just southwest of downtown Bellingham. Lake Whatcom has the unusual privilege of functioning both as the city’s watershed and as an active recreation area for residents. As such, recreation in this area is well-controlled, and this trail is one of only two points on the lake that provides public access to the waterfront. But step just a few feet down the trail and you’ll leave the crowds behind, with only old-growth trees and silent cliffs to keep you company.

Looking for a beautiful drive?
Drive along Chuckanut Dr. to see the bay and islands and arrive at Larrabee State Park. A longer drive will take you down to the beautiful Skagit Valley.
