Graduate Student Scholarships - 2016
Update: The scholarship deadline has passed. We will no longer be accepting applications for 2016.
Thanks to the generous support of many PAMLA members, we are able to offer a limited number of scholarships for select graduate students who will be presenting papers at the 2016 conference. Unfortunately, given the fact that scholarship funds come entirely from PAMLA member donations, only a limited number of scholarships are available.
PAMLA members may make donations to the Graduate Student Scholarship Fund by mailing checks made out to PAMLA to Craig Svonkin.
• Must be current member of PAMLA at the time of application.
• Must be graduate student working towards an M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. Post-docs are not eligible.
• Must have a paper proposal marked as confirmed for the 2015 conference.
In past years, those who received scholarships have received between $60 and $120. All applicants may not receive funding.
Eligible graduate students must submit an online application by August 10 using the form below. On the application, you will be asked to describe your project and the way in which it contributes to or advances the scholarship in your field of study. In your response, address the relevance of your paper to either the conference theme of “Archives, Libraries, Properties” or the larger field of literatures and languages.
Complete applications shall be forwarded to the PAMLA Graduate Student Scholarship Committee members who will select the scholarship recipients based upon a combination of unreimbursed travel expenses to attend the conference and the way in which the presentation advances the study of pacific, ancient, and modern languages, cultures, or literatures and/or relates to the conference theme of “Archives, Libraries, Properties.” Applications will be evaluated based on a rubric that weighs students' estimated financial need at 33%, and students' quality of paper and justification of scholarly contribution at 66%.
