Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park: “Exhibits more than 40 species of animals and hundreds of species of plants native to the Chihuahuan Desert”

San Diego Zoo: “The 100-acre (40-hectare) Zoo is home to over 3,700 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants.”

San Diego Zoo Safari Park: An “expansive wildlife sanctuary that is home to more than 2,600 animals representing more than 300 species” housed on half of the Park’s 1,800 acres. (it is strongly suggested that guests enjoy the tram ride included in the price of admission, to see the most animals possible.)

Balboa Park: Nation’s “largest urban cultural park”; 15 major museums, performing arts venues, gardens, and sculptures

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park: restored settlement provides glimpse into life in the Mexican and early American periods between 1821 and 1872 with buildings and businesses to walk through; historical re-enactments on weekends
