Paola Scrolavezza (Ph.D., Venice, 2007)
Associate lecturer at Ca' Foscari University (Venice, Italy) and at University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy). She is the co-author with Luisa Bienati of "La narrativa giapponese moderna e contemporanea" (Japanese modern and contemporary literature), Marsilio, Venezia: 2009. Her research focuses on Modern and Contemporary Japanese Woman’s Literature with particular regard to its prose production. Her approach gives prominence to literary theory studies (mainly Gender and Women’s Studies) and she is interested in the complex relation between gender and genre. She is currently investigating two main aspects of Japanese women’s literature: the rising of joryūbungaku as a critical concept during the 20’s and the ambiguous relation between women writers and the I-novel. Furthermore she is interested in the relation between urban space and identity in contemporary women’s prose. She has published several articles on those topics. She has also translated works of Higashino Keigo, Hayashi Fumiko and Ogawa Yoko into Italian.
